Sooooooo, this ad came across my IG feed, and I thought exactly what I titled this post,”Well that’s a bold statement!”

So, I clicked on it to judge the cover because I’m petty like that.

Now, look, I know nothing about this author or these books. I suppose the ad did its job because it got me to click on it.

Regardless, let’s judge this book by its cover.

By the ad alone, I’m giving some major side eye, because the ad is claiming some massive things.

“Best series of mystery novels of the 2020s.”
In my head I read it like this:
“BeSt SeRiEs Of MyStErY nOvElS oF tHe 2020s”

I’m mildly positive the author is a nice person, good author, and their books are entertaining…
BUT…..!

Out of the bagillion mystery novels out there (I vaguely counted), out of the past 6 years, these are the best? Claims like this are usually internal marketing language, not a consensus statement, and thatβs where my side-eye comes from.

Aaaanyway, the cover is…fine? I do enjoy the dark background and silhouette of the person walking away. It gives a big mystery vibe, which is on par for the genre, right? There is, however (in my shrugging opinion), a lot of wording on the front, and it’s quite small to look at and read, making thumbnails of this cover near impossible to read.

Anyways, fam, Imma pass on this one. The ad annoyed me enough to click, but the cover didn’t intrigue me enough to buy.
This cover crash landed for me.

And that’s a wrap!

Mmmkbye!
