Aunt Honey is a new favorite when she says language after someone says ‘a-hole’ in her house:
“This is my house,” Aunt Honey said, “and I don’t want anyone calling anyone else an ‘a-hole’ when what they mean to say is ‘asshole.’”

I’m loving the conversations between Louise and her cousins, aunt, and great aunt. They feel lived in even when these characters are only now getting onto the page.

The one-sided conversation overheard from Aunt Honey to Louise’s brother, Mark, is beautiful. So unhinged and exactly what you’d expect from an old woman barking orders over the phone. Even when it’s clear Mark disagrees and doesn’t want to do what she says. Then, to have her hang up and calmly say, “He’s on his way” is amazing.

OoOooo, some brushing off Louise and changing the subject? My brows raised at this because everyone but Louise (and us since we’re in her head essentially) knows what went down the night her parents died. And with them saying not to dwell on it that it won’t help, we know it’s something juicy!

The night of their deaths, Louise’s Dad had an attack? And that it was raining a ton and her mom needed to rush her dad to the hospital? Things are getting interesting!

Discussing whether Louise will sell the house is making me wish my eyeballs could read faster because the book is literally called, How to Sell a Haunted House, so this is only the start of the shenanigans destined to follow! And not just because I’m still at the beginning of the book lol

When Mark comes, he doesn’t fight with Louise or any of the other women in the room. Makes him seem cowardly or smart lol also, my suspicion supernatural monocle is on. Was he acting all aggressive with Louise because they were at the house? The haunted house?

The breather we’re getting as readers about the differences and preferences of fried chicken is nice because the tension is slowly ramping up. It’s not a jumpscare, it’s the frog in a pot slowly coming to a boil bundle of nerves kind of scare.

Ending with her cousin walking Louise to her car, giving her a huge hug, and making Louise envious about how her and her brother didn’t get along was a sweet little heartbreak. And learning that everyone thinks her family is weird was also an interesting little cherry on top.
