Hex Chapter 5 Thoughts

I run a small business from home, and it’s been a bit busy this past week, so I’m hopefully getting a groove back with the extra work and life balance of being a mom on top of all of this. Anyways, let’s get started!

We’re back in the pov of Robert Grimm, who works for HEX as the monitoring entity of the witch. He’s amused by the prank pulled on her with the lamppost.

We’re taken to where their secret headquarters are hidden beneath a closed visitors center for an abandoned and closed military academy of sorts. Nice cover up place TBH. Gives me Hydra/SHIELD vibes from Marvel.

It also made me think a bit about the SCP Foundation, Cabin in the Woods, and that freaky game…what’s it called? The one where you play as a reporter/whistle blower in the asylum and the inmates are crazy and murderous? And there’s a monster hidden deep down?

Had to pause my notations to look it up because it was bothering me.
The game I’m thinking of is Outlast. I believe it’s rated M 17+, so viewers or gamer discretion is advised as it’s a psychological survival horror game. I’ve never played it, but I’ve watched the playthrough, and it’s pretty gruesome.

Anyways, back to Hex, Grimm is in a good mood. This chapter is shorter, but still packed with substance. The couple that recently moved to the area had their first home visit by the witch. Last chapter, we saw she could essentially teleport, so it makes sense how she can just appear in someone’s house.
That’s gotta be so jarring. One minute, you’re chilling, the next, ancient witch with sewn eyes and mouth with chains is in your face.

By the vague descriptions of the couple, the camera showed them screaming and freaking out. She was wrapped in something and he was in his undies, so we can guess they may have been having some shmexy time when they were interrupted by the witch as their new audience. She’s not being a peeping Tom, because she can’t see, but still, privacy lady! Geez!

The neighbors calm the newbies down enough to take them into their home.
My guess is when the witch makes a home visit, you’re now stuck living in Black Springs forever. That was implied in this chapter.

Anyways, the chapter came off a bit unnerving and claustrophobic for me. Doing its job as a containment horror.
