Project Hail Mary (Movie) Fresh Thoughts and Spoilers!

So, I watched Project Hail Mary in theaters with a good friend, and it was amazing.
There was tension, a touch of horror, mystery, suspense, and thrills, but what really carried it was the camaraderie, mutual respect, and growing understanding between Ryland Grace and Rocky.
Also…who would’ve thought an alien space rock crab/spider would be absolutely adorable?
What I loved most was the element of hope. Yes, it’s sci-fi, and yes, there are little black space amoebas eating the sun, but it never feels like pure doom and gloom. (And yes, I immediately bought the book to have and to hold lol. I’ll read it soon.)

Unlike Interstellar (which I actually hated), this story feels lighter in tone. Interstellar left me feeling like, “Earth is doomed and we’re just…eff’d.” The ending didn’t feel satisfying to me. Matthew McConaughey’s character doesn’t really get to fix anything in a meaningful, emotional way.
Project Hail Mary, on the other hand, delivers resolution. Ryan Gosling’s character not only (implied) helps save Earth, but he also chooses to go back and save Rocky and Erid. That choice shifts everything.
Similar setup. Completely different emotional payoff.
Interstellar left me with a pit of despair in my chest. Project Hail Mary left me with hope and warm fuzzies, and I’ll take that every time.
As Michaelbrent Collings once said, “Horror is the genre of hope.” And I totally agree. The stories that stick with me aren’t just about destruction. They’re about that light at the end of the tunnel (pun not necessarily intended lol).
Anyway, highly recommend Project Hail Mary. Stunning visuals, a well-done reluctant hero, a wholesome unlikely friendship, and a genuinely satisfying ending.
