It just hit me from the last chapter that the photos of Louise’s parents were drawn caricatures and not actual photos lending to the idea that she’s still in denial that they’re actually dead or something like that. Also, they were cremated, so did Louise even see their dead bodies? Are they even dead? I think they are, as the reader, but Louise doesn’t have that finality, right? Only the word of her untrustworthy brother, who is hella suspicious! So, the caricatures are still stand-ins for her parents just as the cremains are for their bodies as the puppets are for real people as Pupkin is for Louise’s mom’s traumas.
Sure enough, Louise having her dad leave everything to her made Mark wig out.
Oof…that’s icky. Messy wills with times of death and who died first essentially boiled down to, if Louise’s Dad died after the mom, Louise got everything, if the opposite, Mark did. So, from what we know, the dad was DOA and the mom on the way to the hospital. So…that means…Mark gets everything?
Mark pumping his fist and cheering about getting everything is tacky and disrespectful and just plain gross. Their attorney (cousin, I think) rightfully calls him out. I like this Brody guy.
Ew, Mark so even more despicable the more this goes on! Obviously not wanting to split anything with Louise. She had said she’d do that for him, split everything evenly, that is, and all he’s thinking now is dollar signs and that he’s been proven the favorite child. So gross.
I feel Louise’s pain and heartache here. Hendrix did a great job in writing her devastation. She wanted control to get everything split and handled correctly and efficiently, so she and Mark could go their separate ways forever. But that doesn’t seem to be the case now, so the only thing that just popped into my head is if Mark dies (which is morbid, I know, but this is a horror book, but that would also be a bit too obvious and clean and deux ex machina), or whatever Louise’s mom put in the envelope Brody gave her before she ran out of the house will our a wrench in Mark’s plans.
The separator page for the next section literally says, Angry, so I suspect things about to go down.
