Hex Chapter 8 – Trigger Warning for Domestic Violence and Suicide

We’ll see how far I get this chapter before my melatonin gummies kick in. For my mental health, I’m trying to get to bed earlier, so I can get some proper sleep. But so far, this chapter is in Griselda Holst’s pov, and I think she’s the owner of the diner? I can’t quite remember. Probably a symptom of reading 5 books concurrently (Law & Order gavel sound), but even still, not everyone gets to read daily, so small details like that slip through the cracks regardless.

She’s running around in the rain, her backstory mingling with where she’s going. She had an abusive husband, which is sad. But he’s not around anymore. Suspected dead, but officially just missing.

I wonder where she’s going? Her name, Griselda, sounds witchy enough to me. Not in a bad way. Only because of a specific video game franchise I grew up playing, Banjo Kazooie. The main baddie’s name was Gruntilda, and she has three sisters (only one shows up in the first game, and the other two in the second game) names, Bruntilda, Mingella, and Blobbelda. So, Griselda sorta sounds like their long lost sister lol

This certainly doesn’t help the comparison since Griselda-Gruntilda-Bruntilda-Mingella-Blobbelda has been running to find the witch of Black Springs, Katherine. I wonder what she’s going to do? Is she secretly helping the witch?

Aww…she’s being nice to Katherine…that’s…sweet. I’m anxious because I know what this witch is capable of, but I hope Griselda-Gruntilda-Bruntilda-Mingella-Blobbelda doesn’t get punished by Hex or Katherine because of her kindness. She’s apologizing for the prank her son and his friends did on her. Awww…oooooh, I see…Griselda worships Katherine because she believes she’s the reason her abusive husband died. And she wants her and her son to be spared if and when Katherine is able to break free again with her evil eye and her whisperings. That’s…unsettling.

This is hard to read. We’re reliving Griselda punishing her son after he participated in pranking the witch. I don’t ever condone hitting your own child. I don’t care how old they are.

Chapter finished. And, well, Griselda brings food offerings, gossip, and her woes to Katherine, and she requested her son be spared and for Katherine to go visit a homeless man to put him out of his misery. Katherine only moved briefly, scaring Griselda off. This book keeps getting darker.
